Fun Fact: What is a Cocotte?
The term "cocotte" in cookware usually refers to a casserole pot, also known as a Dutch oven or French oven. In the English-speaking world, Dutch ovens were traditionally the popular cast-iron pot for slow cooking and braising. However, French companies like Le Creuset began marketing their enamelled cast-iron pots as "French ovens" to distinguish them from the uncoated Dutch ovens. In French colloquial terms, the word "cocotte" is also used as a term of endearment, similar to how Australians say "chicken" or "chook". Since these French ovens were generally smaller versions of classic casserole dishes, the term "cocotte" also started being used interchangeably.
